Royal St George's golf course was the first course to host The Open outside of Scotland in the year 1894. Royal St George's has hosted The Open Championship 13 times with the most recent being in 2003 when Ben Curtis became the Open Champion at his first attempt.
Royal Liverpool
Royal Liverpool became a regular on The Open circuit in 1897 and has staged The Championship eleven times since then. The 2006 Open was won by Tiger Woods at Royal Liverpool.
Royal St Cinque Ports
Having only hosted The Open twice, once in 1909 when J. H. Taylor was victorious and also in 1920 when George Duncan won, Royal Cinque Ports is a true links course which would be worthy of staging another Championship.
Royal Lytham & St Annes
Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club was first introduced to The Open in 1926 and found an extremely famous and popular winner - Bobby Jones. Lytham has since staged The Open nine times with David Duval being the most recent champion there in 2001.
Royal Birkdale
Strangely enough, Royal Birkdale is the most recent golf course in England to have been chosen by the Royal & Ancient Golf Club to play host to The Open. Many golfers regard Birkdale as the best links course in England. Peter Thomson, Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino and Tom Watson are among those who have won The Open here.
Prince’s Golf Club
Prince's Golf Club is situated in Sandwich with Royal St George's Golf Club as its' neighbour. Having only staged The Open in 1932, Prince's is still used for Open Qualifying when The Open is at Royal St George's. Gene Sarazen is the only player to have won at Prince's Golf Club.
