The Royal Calcutta Golf Course, Calcutta
Established in 1829, the Royal Calcutta Golf Club is the second oldest golf club in the world after The Old Course at St Andrews. It is the oldest golf club in India and first outside Great Britain. King George V and Queen Mary conferred the title "Royal" to the club to commemorate their visit to Calcutta in 1911. Royal's conspicuous features are its natural water hazards. Greens at the Royal are small by modern standards, but undulations make them tricky. From the tee the course looks deceptively easy, but its strength lies in its par fours, and to score requires good long and medium irons.
